IoT enabled devices are increasing exponentially, from the coffee machines, toaster oven to refrigerated cabinet or even large processing machines. However, does the coffee machines process the data similar to a large processing? Apparently not, as Industrial IoT must be able to process a large amount of continuous data from sensors. Therefore, the big question is how to efficiently enable industrial machinery and effectively utilize these data to leverage the productivity?
GE Predix at a glance
The Industrial IoT needs a hero and that is when GE arises with its platform Predix. At first glance, the vision of GE is stated as below:
“A software platform becomes more powerful the more people use it. GE will continue using it, but making it available externally will also allow our customers and business partners to write their own software and become more successful. We want Predix to become the Android or iOS of the machine world. We want it to become the language of the Industrial Internet.” – said Dave Bartlett, chief technology officer of GE Aviation.
As GE Predix is a Cloud Foundry-based solution, it provides a choice of developer frameworks, data services, and application services. Cloud Foundry makes it faster and easier to build, test, deploy, operate and enhances the scalability of application.
FPT’s solution on GE Predix Platform
FPT has recently developed a transportation project using GE Predix platform, which aim to reduce road fatalities, embrace driving experience and generate revenue stream. FPT Drive Solution includes three main features: Real-time driving Safety Information System, Planning Assistant/Scheduling Optimization and Predictive Maintenance.
Throughout the project, FPT has successfully applied more than half of the services provided by Predix to build the application from frontend to the backend of the system. While Predix Experience helps to build up the UI much faster, the other Predix Services such as Analytics, SQL, Time-Series and Assets make coding practice much easier.
As GE Predix reached $6 billions in revenue in 2015 and this firm is keen on doubling its revenue to $15 billion by 2020, FPT also bets in this game with Industrial IoT.
